Week 5 One Room Challenge: Commitment Week!

What a newbie! I had the tank on upside down in my Insta story!

Oh my goodness, as I’m writing this, there’s dried up paint on my fingertips and my feet are sore from all of the commitment of week 5 of the One Room Challenge. Particularly this weekend! If you’re anything like me, and spending a little money makes you commit deeper into a project, I’m definitely feeling that! It’s actually all happening. And it won’t be JUST the exterior, as I was worrying last week.

Catch up on the full details on the One Room Challenge, my plans, and full progress by checking out my previous weeks: https://kaitlynloos.com/blog/

What I bought

This week started with a dash of disappointment when I realized I couldn’t re-tint some 5 gallon buckets of white paint. I’ll have to dive more into that in an upcoming video! So this meant spending a little more money on the satin Oleander, but at the end of the day, it’s better to use new paint anyway. I also decided (keep in mind I am far from a professional painter) to skip the primer and just go with two coats of SW Super Paint.

Thursday night, I picked up some paver sand since we were making a stop at a Lowe’s. Saturday, we hit up our favorite spot and found a great deal on mold and mildew resistant dry wall. Did I buy enough to do the entire interior of my shed? Highly doubt it. But I liked the idea of getting the shorter form sheets that are easier for my 5’2″ self to handle. And as I mentioned to Renan when we were driving home in the truck “Wow, I’m really doing the interior now.”

Will it be done in the same 8 weeks as the rest of the One Room Challenge? Time will tell. But I love seeing and reporting the progress every weekend.

Progress to report

Week 5: The shed is painted!! Well sort of…

Saturday after we got back from the construction supply store, I got right to finishing the prep work for the exterior paint job. This consisted of a light wash-down of the whole shed exterior and taping off the windows, and trim pieces that I think will be best without paint.

Sunday morning, (today) after a bit of trial and error process, I got the hang of my new spray gun and got two gallons of paint, plus the rest of the sample up on the shed before dark. So many learning lessons about how to work with the spray gun! And slightly sad that I ran out of paint, but I had a feeling we would need another gallon. It does feel good to have the majority of the Oleander done. Trim paint will be next!

I think the color will feel a bit more satisfying (as it usually does) when the blue tape is gone and the white trim is done. And I think the brush painting might be more relaxing than working with the spray gun like I did today. But I DO think the texture and reach from the spray gun was the way the go on our metal sided shed. Do I think I’m going to use it on my interior bookshelf now? Absolutely not.

More to come!

Maybe this has been the biggest week on the ORC so far? Next weekend will be another paint and exterior projects week for the challenge. What are your thoughts on the color? Do you think you’ll see ANY interior photos of the shed before the 8 weeks is up? Let me know your thoughts in the comments. 🙂
